Message From Outgoing Finance Director

Colin Ferrier is stepping done as Non Executive Finance Director
22 Jan 21

Colin noted. “ After three years with one of Scotland’s most well-organised and successful Sports Governing Bodies I can honestly say that the Staff, Board and Volunteers are a most amazing group of people to work with and I have very much enjoyed working with them in our collective aim to promote boating across Scotland. It’s great to be involved in the organisation of a sport you are passionate about and meeting other like-minded volunteers has been a lot of fun.”

While we are indebted to the work put into this valuable volunteer role Colin adds.

“Inheriting a watertight Finance set-up from my predecessor, I added value by bringing fresh challenge to existing processes and procedures and developing the budgeting and forecasting process along with a transition to a more dynamic reporting system which could be accessed by all managers. That said there is still more to do to support delivery of further efficiencies in the finances of the organisation.”

As RYA Scotland continues its exciting journey we are aware of the important role financial stability has in shaping and challenging the associated upfront and ongoing costs. Colin looks forward to working with the successful applicant to conduct an orderly handover and ensure they ‘inherit’ the organisation’s financials in good shape.

The staff team extend our deepest thanks to Colin for the many achievements in the financial control of RYA Scotland over his term of office, where changes to reporting systems have helped enormously particularly during the recent period of working from home.

CEO James Allan added "Colin has made a huge contribution to our financial processes during his tenure and we are grateful for his time and expertise. His successor will be well supported into the role and it’s an excellent opportunity for someone to make a real difference for the whole of Scottish boating."

We have opened up recruitment for this role which closes on the 12th of February with full information available here.
