Outdoor Sport Facilities Reopen in Wales

Following our continued dialogue alongside other National Governing Bodies of Sport, Sport Wales, Visit Wales, Outdoor Alliance and the Welsh Sports Association, the Welsh Government announced on Friday 19th June that outdoor sports facilities will be able to reopen and the sport will be able to resume, subject to certain restrictions, from Monday 22nd June.

RYA Cymru Wales have updated our detailed guidance to the boating community so that boating in Wales can safely provide the health and wellbeing activities available to our members. We encourage you to read the guidance carefully and take any necessary time to implement them properly before boating.

RYA Cymru Wales Chief Executive Officer Gerwyn Owen said: “This is positive news for boating in Wales, and we look forward to continuing to work with all involved in the sport to open it up to more people following the safe resumption of boating activity”.

Owen went on to say: “Our boating community has taken a considerate and responsible manner in preparing to get out on the water, having engaged with our Club Development Forums, Catch up forums hosted by myself whilst also appointing a Covid-19 Task team within their clubs and centres to prepare to re-open their facilities. The latest announcement sees clubs and centres being able to re-open their facilities, although certain restrictions remain”.

Travel restrictions remain in place, with staying local and not travelling more than 5 miles generally in place. However, if conditions allow, this restriction will be lifted on July 6th. Overnight stays are still prohibited, however, if conditions allow, this restriction will be lifted on July 13th.
