Virtual courses fast approaching

There is a RYA Regional Judge virtual course on 12th December 2020, with RYA Instructors Graham Louth, Chris Lindsay and Chris Atkins, all three are World Sailing International Judges. The RYA Regional Judge course is focused on equipping attendees with the knowledge and skills on rules and hearing needed to support their local and regional events. The course will be delivered for the first time via Zoom. It will be completely interactive as attendees will take part in mock hearings, and develop the skills to chair hearings and write decisions, to focus on the key rules that determine the decision, and to ask questions of sailors and their witnesses. This course is limited to 12 attendees, and has only four spaces left!

Attendees will need to have a good grasp of Part 2 of the Racing Rules of Sailing, and how they apply to common racing incidents. Experience of attending protest hearings (as a sailor or a judge) will be an advantage, but is not essential. There will be some pre-course reading and activities to complete.

The RYA Regional Judge Course fulfils one of the requirements to achieve the RYA Regional Judge qualification. The other requirements can be found on our website  here.

There is also a RYA Regional Race Officer virtual course which will take place on 9th January 2021, with RYA approved instructors and WS International Race Officers, Robin Gray and Tom Rusbridge. The course will focus on teaching attendees the knowledge and skills needed in Race Management. Attendees will learn topics such how to produce a Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, understanding the preliminary jobs before the race, as well as decision making and what to do, and how to cope when things go wrong.  The course will be completely interactive and attendees will need to complete a number of pre-course modules in areas such as starting, timekeeping and signalling.

For the first time, this course will be delivered via Zoom, and will be on one day, with regular breaks.  The RYA Regional Race Officer course is one of the requirements to achieve the RYA Regional Race Officer qualification. The other requirements can be found on our website here.
