Busy planning your summer on or by the water? Whether the diary is already packed, or whether you’re still on the look out for some more sailing action to soak up – there’s certainly lots to get excited about.
Coming up early next month is the Round Mull Race, open to all monohull yachts with a CYCA handicap. A highlight of the West Coast Yachting calendar, racing brings together sailors from all across Scotland and further afield to enjoy some top scenery.
Later in summer, we’re set to experience a Scottish first - with the renowned Clipper Round the World Yacht Race stopping over in Scotland for the first time in it’s 27 year history.
With the fleet all set to make an appearance in Oban this July, the local community are ready to welcome Clipper, and will be putting on a whole host of ashore activities for spectators and visitors to get stuck into.
As RYA Scotland, we’ll be there ahead of the fleet arriving to host a beach clean at Dunstaffnage headland on the 14th of July, to make sure the coast we love and use is looking spic and span.
Read more about the clean now, and make sure to come and join us if you’re in the Oban area.
For more on the Yacht Race itself, why not find out more about the crew, including some Scottish names? And make sure to watch out for the ‘Slip the Lines Ceremony’, visible from Dunstaffnage on the 21st July at 12pm, as The Clipper Race yachts begin their final leg to Portsmouth, to complete the circumnavigation.
And, if that wasn’t enough action, West Highland Yachting Week kicks off shortly after the Clipper Departure. Forming a popular date in the diary, the week long family friendly regatta is ready to welcome all experience levels into the action.
Looking a bit further ahead, the International 8 metre World Cup will also grace the West Coast. With action kicking off from the 17th of August – the former Olympic Class will be jointly hosted by Royal Northern & Clyde and Mudhook Yacht Clubs.
Heading over to the East Coast, Port Edgar Yacht Club will be hosting the 707 UK Nationals from the 15th- the 18th of August, with a strong turnout from local sailors expected.
And that’s just a snapshot of what’s on the go this summer. For more inspiration for your boating diary, head to our events page now, or check out calendars from The Clyde Yachts Clubs Association, and the Forth Yacht Clubs Association.
