What a summer afloat! It’s been great to see so much action across all the regions. And, there’s plenty to look forward to with our upcoming Giant Academy fast approaching. Will we see you there? Read on for more on what we’re up to, and other opportunities from across the community.

Win Micky Beckett’s Paris 2024 Olympic ILCA 7 and contribute to a great cause, transforming lives through sailing. For just £10 per ticket, an Olympic standard sail and boat could be yours! With 100% of the proceeds going to the Andrew Simpson Foundation, you will directly contribute to providing more access for young people to get on the water. Buy your tickets now until the 30th of September. The draw will be on the 1st of October.

The RYA Scotland Giant Academy is an event for young sailors in the junior and youth classes, designed to encourage sailors of all racing abilities onto the water and beyond. If you sail an Optimist, Topper, Feva, ILCA or 29er, plan to attend this fun-filled weekend on the water and meet the coaches. Bookings are now full, however you can get in touch with pathway@ryascotland.org.uk to express an interest and pop your name on a waiting list.

sportscotland is recruiting for their Young People’s Sport Panel. Do you know someone in your network aged 14 to 23 who has what it takes to speak up for sport? Do you know someone who wants to make a real difference in sport and physical activity? If so, then this opportunity is for them! This new cohort of the panel will work with sportscotland to help influence and shape sport across the country and be the voice of young people in Scottish sport. Learn more and apply here by Wednesday the 18th of September.

The 2024 Connected Scotland dates and venue are confirmed. The conference will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of November at the Regional Performance Centre in Dundee. The theme will be keeping people safe and creating a welcoming environment. Content will be presented in partnership with the RYA Scotland Coaching and Pathways teams, and the RYA, covering a diverse range of topics and interests delivered in interactive sessions. There will also be ample opportunities to converse with the RYA, RYA Scotland staff and volunteers, as well as your peers in the Scotland boating community. Please plan to attend!

On Course for the Future is RYA Scotland’s new development framework for RYA-affiliated clubs, centres, and associations. This collection of guides can help you continue to develop and effectively steer the direction of your organisation. For example, your RDO can help you to gather input from your participants, create a vision or mission statement, review your governance, or set priorities. Explore the document yourself or with your fellow leaders; then reach out to your RDO to discuss how and where to get started with it.

It's awards season! Who in your club or community deserves recognition? Scottish Women in Sport Awards close the 13th of September. Nominations for the Scottish Sports Awards, hosted by Team Scotland and sportscotland are also open until the 27th of September.

Also consider nominating someone for an RYA Scotland Impact Award. Nominations are open year-round for you to put forward those who make a difference to your boating. Whether that’s an inspirational person, team, or organisation – we want to hear from you! Get involved now – your nomination could become cause for celebration!
