RYA Foundation Youth Fund

Supporting young people to reach their potential through sailing

The RYA Foundation Youth Fund was created with funding from the John Merricks Sailing Trust and the RYA.

It is open to young sailors under 25 who are seeking financial help to achieve their goals.  

There was an unprecedented level of interest in the Youth Fund following its launch in September 2023 and the funds available for grants in 2023-24 were quickly taken up in making nearly 90 grant awards.  The Trustees are currently reviewing their criteria for making grants and an announcement about the opening of the 2024-25 grant window will be made during the course of May. “We see 2024 as an opportunity to develop the Youth Fund with ideas that can unlock more of the untapped potential among the young sailors, particularly those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to progress in the sport.”

The RYA Foundation continues its commitment to bring boating opportunities for those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial or other disadvantage. Since its creation in 2013, nearly 15,000 people have been helped to get on the water and experience the joy and freedom of sailing.
