Radio sailor

Model yachting consists of two disciplines: free sailing and the more popular radio sailing.

Radio sailing, as the name suggests, is conducted by boats with the sailor adjusting the rudder and sails by radio control. In free sailing, the sailor sets the sails on the shore to the direction they want to sail in before releasing the boat onto the water.Sometimes this is known as vane sailing.

There are many model yachting clubs throughout the country which organise club racing for both radio and free sailing. The Model Yachting Association is affiliated to the RYA and organises regional and national level events.

The MYA website contains a wealth of information on the various classes of model yachts, how to get involved in model yachting and guidance for those running model yacht races.
