Transition 2 Youth to Adult

The Transition out of the youth sailing programme has many options; just a few of the options are explained below.

World juniors sailing Podium, Podium Potential - Athletes looking to progress into PP and P programmes are encouraged to plan early so that they can balance their sailing, education and personal lives. Gaining selection to these programmes sailors should look to be in the RYA P3 programme based in Weymouth and Portland. Athletes should look to achieve top 10 results at World and European Championships in the last year of youth sailing.

Coaching and Instructing - RYA Scotland are always looking for new coaches and sailors can gain a Race Coach Level 2 over a 2 day course. For more information on this contact Nikki Stewart.

Keelboat Racing - The Scottish Keelboat Academy is currently run by RNCYC  More information can be found via this link.

University Sailing - is available at over 50 clubs across the UK. During the university term there are four major national championships (Dinghy Fleet Racing, Match Racing, Team Racing and Yachting) at which you can represent your University. These events are run by British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) who oversee university sport for the UK.  Sailing at University can be a great way to meet new people and learn new skills, while also being a very social experience.

Race Officials - The RYA is continually looking to train new race officers, judges, umpires and mark layers to support events around the UK. The knowledge you learnt as a youth within the RYA Scotland pathway will really help you to become a top quality race official and provide you with opportunities to officiate at events around the world.
