Australia endorsements

The Australia endorsements are in place for two purposes

To validate an RYA Cruising or Yachtmaster Instructor qualifications for Australia only

Instructors who only work as instructors in Australian waters may choose to use an AMSA 1850 domestic medical fitness certificate in lieu of the full Australian seafarers medical (AMSA 303) required for the full commercial endorsement. The endorsement only validates the status as an instructor, and does not enable the holder to work on UK or Australian flagged commercial vessels.

To validate the RYA Yachtmaster CoC as a prerequisite for the AMSA Sailing Master CoC

An RYA Yachtmaster (Sail) Coc with a full commercial endorsement is eligible as a pre-requisite for the AMSA Sailing Master CoC. Those who wish to use the domestic seafarer medical (AMSA 1850) may apply for an endorsement stating that the certificate is validated as a prerequisite certificate for an AMSA Sailing Master CoC under an equivalency agreement between the RYA and AMSA. The endorsement does not enable the holder to work on UK or Australian flagged commercial vessels.

To receive either of the above endorsements the following will be required

  • The original Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence requiring the endorsement
  • A copy of your Personal Survival Techniques STCW 78 (STCW A-V1/1-1) or RYA Basic Sea Survival Certificate.
  • AMSA 1850 (Previously AMSA 559) Certificate of Medical Fitness
  • Professional Practices and Responsibilities Certificate – see note 5 overleaf.
  • A passport sized photo with your name written on the reverse.
  • The endorsement fee.
