Run a race course

Are you a club, training centre or class association and would like to run a race coach course or host a Discover Coaching and Instructing event?

We are here to support the development of racing in your club or class.  Please email us at to discuss what you need.

Do you need more coaches or instructors?

Sometimes a club or a class might need more coaches or instructors, but they don't have people stepping forward to take up the role.  If this is the case for you then you might want to host a “Discover Coaching and Instructing” event.  This half-day taster event covers the role of a coach or instructor and helps people decide if that is a route they wish to take.  It is perfect to help the undecided make a decision!  Get in touch via if you would like to host an event.

Do you have sailors who are ready to take their race coach qualification and start coaching?

Then consider hosting a race coach course to develop your members or sailors.  You could run an open or closed Race Coach Level 2 course.

What does the club/class need to supply?

  • Five single-handed appropriate boats
  • One safety boat and fuel
  • A sheltered area to brief & review
  • Two days to run the course
  • Access on and off the water throughout the course

What is an open/closed course?

A closed course is only available for your club/class members to attend.  Your members can pay their own course fee or we can invoice the club/class directly.  An open course is available for anyone to join and they pay their own course fee.

How can we book a course?

Simply either call 02380 604201 or email to discuss dates and suitability.

What happens next?

  • Your course will be included on the Become a coach page for sailors to book a place.
  • The cost is £125 per person.  Please note this course is subsidised by the RYA and Sport England, therefore the fee is a contribution towards the full cost of hosting a course and the ongoing support available to race coaches.
  • We will appoint a Race Coach Tutor to your course who will guide the candidates through the course process.
