March 2022

Club Development Blog – March 2022

Here we are once again with the latest instalment from Wales!

Gerwyn’s final weeks at the RYA!

We received the news last month that our Chief Executive Officer here in Wales had decided to move on to pastures new, and the process to recruit his replacement is well underway with Gerwyn helping as much as he can.

It’ll be sad to see Gerwyn go, but we’d like to wish him the best of luck, and we’re sure our paths will cross again in the very near future.

Storm Damage Funding

Sport Wales announced some funding support packages recently, specifically to support Sport Clubs that had been affected by the recent storms (which obviously would impact coastal sailing clubs!)

By early March, £506,706 had been approved to help clubs recover from the damage, thanks to the National Lottery.

In total, 195 various sports clubs have been allocated grants to help with repairs to clubhouses, equipment and other items that were exposed to the elements.

The RYA Youth Nationals come to Wales!

The RYA Youth National Championships is making a much-anticipated return to Wales this year. The week-long regatta heads to Plas Heli, the Welsh National Sailing Academy in Pwllheli, for the first time since 2016.

The regatta will take place from April 9 to 15 against the backdrop of the beautiful Cardigan Bay and will be the first time that all current British Youth Sailing youth pathway classes have competed at the same event.

A full foiling compliment of iQFOiL and kitefoil classes will feature alongside the ILCA 6 and 7, the 420, 29er and Nacra 15.

The RYA Youth National Championships app will also be returning for 2022. Available from the App Store and Google Play, it will be the main channel of communication to competitors and can be used to access important regatta information as well as submit documents, requests, and protests.

Club Membership Census

The information clubs provide helps us to monitor progress and shape our bids for further resourcing - which allows us to both continue to support clubs and promote boating activities to a wider audience.

The 2022 census opens at the beginning of June. Clubs will be sent an invitation by email. Use the link 2022 RYA Club Membership Census Questionsto preview the questions in this year’s census.
