September 2021

Here’s the latest news from across Wales from our Development Team!

Keeping in touch with your members over the Winter months!

As we approach the end of the sailing season, it’s probably time to think about how you’ll keep in touch with your members over the winter months??  Lots of clubs have been able to take advantage of the ‘Staycation’ boom and will have gained new members, therefore it’s imperative to continue the communications to retain them and to whet the appetite ready for the 2022 season!

It’s important to promote all aspects of the club, be that afloat or ashore, as this will ensure the members are ready to go once again come sailing season!

Here are just a few ideas for you to consider:

  • Develop a Winter social programme
    • Club walks or club talks
  • Arrange some E-Sailing events
  • Training Opportunities – VHF, First Aid, etc
  • Volunteer Training? Instructor or RCL2 courses?

What else could you do? We’re sure that there are already lots of great ideas out there!

Keeping in touch is the key to it all and social media is a fantastic tool to communicate whatever is arranged, so contact us if your club could benefit from some social media training.

There are some great Club Development Sessions coming up in the next couple of weeks, specifically designed to support the running of your club – everything from Safeguarding to a look at how crowdfunding could help your club build new facilities. Details of the courses and how to take part can be found here.

This is new area of the website work keeping an eye on as new sessions get uploaded here quite regularly.

Teaching people to sail has long been an activity clubs do to gain new members, so if your club is looking to find out what courses are on in Wales this winter, we have a new area of the website where details of the latest courses running can be found here.

If your club is interested in running an instructor course, please get in touch to discuss further.

Following the success of the RYA’s first ever virtual Affiliated Clubs Conference in 2020, this year’s offering will be an online National event with the Welsh Conference also going online too!  We hope this makes it easier for as many people as possible to attend. It will take place as a series of online sessions starting the week commencing the 22nd November.   More information can be found here.

OnBoard Windsurfing Conference

Join us on Wednesday 6th October at 18.30 for our first online RYA OnBoard windsurf conference. Our Keynote Speaker is Professor Bill Lucas from the University of Winchester. Professor Bill will discuss the broader learning benefits of windsurfing for young people. There will also be the opportunity to view and understand the new windsurf teaching resources from RYA OnBoard. Finally, there will be updates from Coaching Development and Racing. With the recent changes coming to Team 15, along with the release of the new OnBoard windsurfing session cards, this couldn’t come at a better time. Best of all, the conference is completely free.
