Instructor Development

Instructors are a key part of the workforce to drive training and qualifications at RYANI clubs and centres.

We currently run Instructor training in the following disciplines, and we can cover more (links for further information and the pathways for each discipline are given):

Dinghy/Keelboat/Multihull

Powerboat

Windsurf

Cruising and Yachtmaster

Inland Waterways

Personal Watercraft

Shorebased Navigation

Shorebased Specialist Short Courses

Teaching in the Classroom

We also run training for Race Coaches, and further information is here.

Most instructor qualifications are revalidated every 4 years, so experience is checked on a regular basis.

Our instructors can ask for support with career advice, and CPD to improve and develop their knowledge.

Each year RYA runs a Training Conference, and national or regional Instructor Training Days.

The disciplines each have an instructor handbook which explains the scheme and the progressions and instructor syllabus information.

Instructors can make themselves ‘available for work’ across a number of Recognised Training Centres, which may offer practical or theory courses.

Anyone interested in becoming an instructor or just seeking further details should contact the Development Officer Gordon Reid
