News round up

What’s been happening? Well……

We’ve made progress on our Workforce Development Programme with the recruitment of Workforce Development Coordinators who will guide clubs on qualifying more instructors in areas around our region; look out for more news on this in future issues.

We've welcomed three new OnBoard providers in the region and new funding was announced from Tideway towards Active Thames grants.

We continued our web introductions to the RYA regional team with Bernard Sealey, our representative for East Kent Clubs

And what’s coming up?.....

Discover Sailing

I’m delighted to say Discover Sailing is back and the Discover Sailing event platform is open.

If you would like to try sailing for the first time, or if you’ve sailed before and would like to return to the sport, then try a Discover Sailing event at a club near you. From 1 May, venues across our region are offering ‘have a go’ taster sessions for all. No previous experience is necessary, so why not find out how you and your family can get involved with sailing, windsurfing and watersports locally.

If your club or centre is looking to make the most of your open day or have a go sessions with support from the RYA then we can help with free resources and by listing your event on our Find an Event web page.

Regional Junior Championships

Entries are now open for the for the London & South East Regional Junior Championships (dinghy) which will be hosted by Datchet Water Sailing Club over the weekend 22-23 June 2024.

These regional regattas encourage juniors (under 16s) of all skill levels to participate in an action-packed and fun weekend on the water.

I’m particularly keen to encourage more entries in the OnBoard fleet.

Entries will open soon for the windsurfers at Queen Mary Sailing Club on 7-8 September using the same link. The windsurfing event will be held in association with the Techno class association.

Share your stories

We’re always looking for stories to pop on our web site and send to your local media, and snippets (two or three sentences) to promote your events or show what you’ve been doing, with photos (landscape format) and links. Or why not send us a short video (15-100 seconds, landscape format) done in one take on your ‘phone to share on our social media. All should have some RYA/regional connection. Other clubs can enjoy your achievements and benefit from your experience. Send us your story
