RYA Scotland Connected Scotland November 24

It’s been a busy Autumn so far, from Connected Scotland to AGM’s, work parties, and prizegiving’s – not to forget activity afloat for those not afraid of the dropping temperatures. Read on for more on what's been on the go, as well as some interesting campaigns to have on your radar.

RYA Connected Scotland over the 2nd and 3rd of November in Dundee brought together representatives of more than 30 Scottish clubs, centres and other organisations, along with RYA Scotland staff and volunteers. It was a full weekend of learning, sharing, and networking. Thanks to our event sponsor Freedom Boat Club Loch Lomond for making it possible to deliver the event free of charge. RYA Scotland Connected Scotland November 24

Thanks to everyone who attended the RYA Scotland AGM on the 7th of November 2024. We were pleased to see a strong number of members in addition to our staff team and board dial in online to hear a comprehensive update on our past year, as well as a look ahead to what’s in store. A recording of the AGM will be available on our YouTube Channel soon.

We are excited to share a refreshed edition of the RYA Scotland strategy, People, Places and Communities. This is an update of our current strategic plan, building on its success across the last few years. We invite you to explore this latest iteration, before we formally launch it in the new year, and before it takes over from our current strategy in April 2025.

RYA Scotland is aware of ongoing concerns from the Scottish boating community regarding a proposed conservancy fee at Clydeport. You can read out most recent statement regarding the matter online now.

Protect Collect Dispose Campaign Week was 21-25 October, raising awareness of using safe and environmentally sustainable antifoul paints on boat hulls. Boaters were encouraged to Protect the ground under boats, using a tarpaulin and drip trays. Collect any drips, spills, and debris. Dispose of all contaminated items and paint legally into hazardous waste bins at the appropriate facility. Read more about the campaign and find further guidance.

RYA Scotland Regional Development Officers are possibly one of the most valuable benefits of your club’s affiliation to the RYA. They can help you to engage your members and community, recruit and retain volunteers, source outside support and funding among many other things. Please contact your Regional Development Officer to see how they can help with your club development projects and to increase participation.

Sail Clean: make sure you are playing by the rules. The RYA Anti-Doping Rules adopt and incorporate the World Sailing Anti-Doping Code and the UK Anti-Doping Rules. The World Anti-Doping Agency’s 2025 Prohibited List comes into effect on 1 January 2025. The list identifies which substances and methods are prohibited at all times, in competition only, and within specific sports. All athletes and athlete support personnel should familiarise themselves with the new changes prior to them taking effect.

Through the Find Your Team #FeelPartOfSomething campaign, SAMH, sportscotland, and Young Scot are encouraging everyone to get involved in group sport or physical activity to help overcome feelings of social isolation. People in our clubs will surely understand the power of our activities in achieving this. Read more about the campaign and find the toolkit and spread the word about bringing people together at your club.
