How to become BYSRC

The BYS Recognised Club application form is available to download here.

Please complete the form and return it to your Regional Performance Manager.

The minimum essential criteria for BYS Recognised Clubs is listed below.

Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria
An RYA Affiliated Club (or have access to RYA Affiliated Club racing)  
British Youth Sailing Recognised Club Programme:
  • Club based Junior pathway coordinator
  • Regular Junior race training
  • Racing opportunities in one or more British Youth Sailing Recognised Class fleet. (4 Boats)
  • Documented Organisational structure with succession planning for key roles
  • Clear Club pathway
  • Links with local schools/OnBoard/Youth groups.
Commitment to the RYA Pathway:
  • Club must be represented at the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships at a minimum 1 year in every 2
  • Junior regional Class Association and RYA training opportunities promoted to sailors and parents
  • Gender parity & retention
  • Sailors applying for BYS Regional Training Groups
Safety / Training Environment:
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Has an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in place
  • Safeguarding &Child Protection Policy (including nominated Safeguarding officer)
  • Risk assessments for all sessions
  • Training delivered by qualified coaches: Racing Instructors / RCL2 / RCL3
