Since its start in 2013, each year we asked all RYA Affiliated Clubs to complete the census and use the data to produce a picture of club membership across the UK. It helps us to monitor progress, tailor our programmes, shape our bids for further resourcing and ultimately support clubs.
The key observations from the insights are relayed directly back to clubs and can be found on the regional pages of the RYA website. Elements of the overall results are also reported to Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Scotland and Sport Wales.
Understanding the impact of Covid19
We understand that this year your attention may currently be drawn elsewhere dealing with the fallout of Covid-19. However, we are confident that the results of the census will help you (and us) better understand the impact of the virus on your club's membership going forwards, and therefore we would very much appreciate your help and support with this task.
Clubs in England should have received an email already but if your club has not yet received this please email Victoria.lenz@rya.org.uk. For accuracy we encourage clubs to complete the census around the same time as they did last year.
Due to the easing of lockdown guidance recently released in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales we have decided to wait a week or so to ease the pressure for those involved in running clubs in the Home Countries.
Drawing reliable conclusions
For the insights to be credible we need at least 85% of clubs in each region to respond, making every club's response important. This makes a huge difference in being able to draw more reliable conclusions from the patterns and trends in the membership data,
RYA Data and Insights Manager Victoria Lenz says: "We really appreciate that so many clubs are experiencing an especially busy time at the moment due to some activity restarting and the management of Covid19."
"Thank you in advance to all who will help us to gain this valuable data which we believe will be really useful to your club too".
Please complete the census by 12:00 Thursday 13th August 2020. If you can do this on a similar date to previous years and by the deadline that would be very helpful.
