RYA Sailability have been working with a range of organisations, sailors and parents to put together some guidance to help volunteers and instructors when working with autistic sailors.
"Boating is fun social, challenging and also develops key life skills. These are benefits which many autistic people can miss out on because clubs, instructors and coaches aren't always aware of the impact of autism. This new guide is full of practical strategies to help with this" explains RYA Sailability Manager Joff McGill.
To launch the guide, there is a video that includes a series of interviews with autistic sailors and parents and provides some very interesting insight into the benefits of sailing for those on the autistic spectrum as well as their top tips to make their experience positive.
