Our Racing Services Administrator, Hollie Cornell, is leaving the RYA as of the end of July. Many of you will have spoken to Hollie by email or phone regarding conferences, courses, appeals or race official applications which she has always dealt with in an efficient manner. Whilst we are very sorry to be losing Hollie, we wish her well as she returns to university to study speech and language therapy.
We are very happy to announce Bryony Young will be starting in August as Hollie's replacement.
Also moving on will be our Keelboat Development Manager, Jack Fenwick. Jack has been with the RYA for almost 6 years, having a brief spell as Technical Coordinator before moving to his current role. Jack has been instrumental in pushing forward many programs and initiatives and will be well known to many of you as the leading force behind our match racing series, the British Keelboat League, and the British Keelboat Academy.
Jack Fenwick shared “We have seen significant growth in the number of people competing in match racing and growing the BKL from nothing over the last five years. It has been my privilege to work with some amazing volunteers from across the country in the race official community and I can honestly say it is the dedication and enthusiasm of all of you that has made these events the success they are.
I would like to thank you all for everything you do for our sport and I look forward to dusting my umpiring flags off and getting involved in events with you all in the future.”
Jack leaves behind him big shoes to fill and our loss will be the gain of RS Sailing. We wish him the best of luck and are sure we will still be frequently in contact with him in his new role.
We are delighted to announce that Cherie Dodd is taking on the role of Events Officer. Cherie has worked for the RYA for a number of years and may be known to those of you who are also coaches as the current People Development Officer. This appointment follows Sara Lumholdt’s decision to not return to work following the end of her maternity leave. We wish Sara all the best for the future with her husband Chris and their baby Oscar and also thank Beth McKellar for all her efforts as Sara’s maternity cover in what has been a very challenging year for running events! Cherie officially starts her new role at the start of August and will be working at the Youth Nationals alongside Beth before Beth returns to her previous role in the Performance Operations team. Cherie’s first event to deliver will be the well-loved and much looked forward to Eric Twiname Youth & Junior Team Racing Championships.
As I’m sure many of you are aware, our website has been completely transformed to make content more accessible, easier to locate and more customer focused.
Our section of the website has been renamed to “Running Racing” as it focuses on everything our race officials and volunteers need to know about running racing. The Running Racing sub-section can be found under the Racing tab along the top of the website.
We also have a dedicated rules section covering the RRS, ERS, OSR, RYA anti-doping rules and all their associated resources.
We would love to hear your thoughts on our new website, including if you think something currently doesn’t work. If you would like to feedback to us, please email RaceOfficials@rya.org.uk.
