Strong, vibrant, and sustainable clubs are at the heart of our sport in Scotland. Along with proactive, healthy training centres, our clubs ensure there is a pathway to enter our sport, to continue to learn, play, improve, instruct, volunteer and get to ‘where you want’ to within boating.
For the past 6 years, the Focus Club Support Programme, delivered via Regional Development Officer support, has been a key area of work for the Participation & Development department.
Over that time we have worked very closely with 37 clubs from across the islands and mainland Scotland. The clubs applied to become part of this programme as they had a desire & capacity to grow active club membership as well as a willingness to work in partnership both with the local community and RYA Scotland. It was open to all affiliated clubs throughout Scotland, regardless of their size, location or the disciplines offered at the club.
The clubs within the programme have (and continue to) receive a variety of support from the RDOs, however, the drive and direction in which to develop has come from the clubs. The great partnership working that has been done over this time has helped us to formulate and produce the Club Development Framework – which is available here for all clubs to use.
The current cohort of 20 clubs are due to come to an end in early 2021 and we are planning to review the Club Development Programme over this winter.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about how we can support your club, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with Liza Linton, Development Manager at RYA Scotland.
