RYA Northern Ireland is delighted to say that feedback from this year’s annual Regional Training Day was excellent.
The event, hosted on 29 March at Killyleagh Outdoor Learning Centre, had on and off the water workshops which gave advice to coaches, instructors and training principals about how to run engaging, informative and safe courses and sessions.
The day covered powerboating, the OnBoard programme and race training. It was also a great opportunity for members of the Northern Irish Sailing community to network with each other and learn about the latest RYA Northern Ireland updates ahead of the upcoming season.
Despite the wet and windy weather, the 42 attendees from 14 different centres and clubs, had an enjoyable day of learning and development.
67% of the attendees said that they deepened their knowledge or learned something new, which was especially pleasing considering the range of participants involved. From youth sailors to older participants, powerboaters to committed dinghy racers, the event catered for the interests of lots of people.
RYA Northern Ireland Workforce Development Officer, Mary Martin, said: “The Regional Training Day is our most important instructor and race coach training day of the year. It’s where people come to hear about RYA updates and develop your skills for the teaching season ahead.
“Giving the sailing instructors a chance to look at the OnBoard scheme allows them to see how they can use that to make their sessions better, powerboat sessions give people the chance to learn how best to teach the Power Boat Level 2 course and Race Coach sessions give Race Coaches the chance to look at the club coaching syllabus with our Coach Tutors and Performance Manager.”
We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who supported the day with the delivery of sessions.
