Apprentice Business Administrator
The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.
Job Role: Apprentice Business Administrator
Salary: £17,293 per annum
Hours: Full-time - 35 hours per week
Location: Hamble
Start date: June 2026, fixed-term contract (15 months)

The Racing Services Team sits within the Racing Sport Department and helps administer the rules of sailboat racing in the UK. The team answers queries on the rules, decides appeals against the decisions of protest committees, and trains volunteer race officials.
Within the Racing Services Team also sits Technical, which is responsible for issuing certificates for national and international racing dinghies whilst also administering handicapping systems to allow boats on different types to race against each other.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative support to the Racing Services Team on tasks as required
- Answer general enquiries and requests for information and advice, referring to colleagues or volunteers as required
- Process payments and issue documentation for the different services offered
- Issue reminders to race officials falling due for renewal
- Process applications and requests in accordance with RYA policies and procedures
- Maintain the database to ensure relevant records are kept up to date
- Work with colleagues to help organise courses, conferences and meetings
- Support course attendees through the booking process
- Issue documentation to attendees as requested by course instructors, committee chairs and colleagues
- Prepare meeting agendas and minutes as required by the Technical Manager
Desired Skills:
- Exceptional organisational skills
- Good communication skills, especially on the telephone
- Good written communication skills, including accurate spelling and grammar Numerate
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively
- Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Understanding of databases
- Ability to write minutes
- Desirable: Knowledge of sailboat racing and organising competition
Qualifications required:
- No qualifications are required, however a UK driving licence would be advantageous
