Certification Administrator

The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating.  It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft. 


Job Role: Certification Administrator


Salary: £23,000 per annum


Hours: Full-time - 35 hours per week


Location: Hamble 


Start Date: January 2026


We have two available roles: one permanent position and one fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.

Do you have experience of a busy call centre, customer support and administration role? Then we could have the perfect role for you in our certification team.

The RYA sets and monitors the standards for national training schemes in sailing and powerboating, which are delivered by RYA qualified instructors through our network of recognised centres.  The Certification team are responsible for maintaining the database detailing the holders of RYA qualifications, and the issuing of the appropriate certification.  They are therefore the first point of contact for administrative enquiries from instructors, examiners, training centres and the general public.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as a first point of contact for administrative enquiries from instructors, examiners, training centres and the public by phone, email and letter.
  • Maintaining databases of qualified instructors and certificate holders to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Processing examination reports, application and renewal forms, and issuing certificates in line with RYA policy and statutory requirements.
  • Handling payments and ensuring compliance with MCA and other regulations.
  • Representing the RYA at Boat Shows and relevant events to provide information on training schemes.
  • Supporting the department’s efficient operation and assisting with tasks as needed, including ad hoc reception cover and occasional support for other teams such as web and accounts.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • English and Maths GCSE or equivalent.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a confident telephone manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Accurate keyboard skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy team environment.
  • Experience working in an administrative capacity.
