RYA Tribunal Panel Member 

The RYA Tribunal operates as an arm’s length body from the RYA and exists to hear and determine any matter requiring a quasi-judicial decision. From considering the conduct of those bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing through to considering if the actions of RYA Instructors should give rise to sanction the Tribunal’s work in varied, and at times challenging, with no two cases the same. 

Following updates to the Tribunal Terms of Reference we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to form a pool from which Tribunal panel members may be drawn. We are looking for people with a broad range of experience, to ensure that a range of skills and perspectives are available. We are particularly keen to hear from those with experience of being part of disciplinary processes, those with an instructing or teaching background, seafaring generally, racing rules and safeguarding. 

Time commitments vary, but in general hearings last around half a day and take place during working hours either at our offices in Hamble or online.

Process of expressing your interest

  • Those interested in supporting the RYA tribunal should complete the Expression of Interest Form
  • Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis until we have pool with appropriate breadth and depth.
  • Applications will be considered by a Tribunal Chair in connection with the Tribunal Secretary, who will notify individuals by e-mail/ to progress offers of support from those felt appropriate to fulfil the role of panel members.
