British Sailing Talent Academy – Performance Development Lead Coaches

We are looking for highly motivated and experienced coaches to lead the development of the next generation of top English sailors within the British Sailing Talent Academies. We are looking to add the following lead coaches to our current Talent Academy team:

North: ILCA 6, 29er and 420

South East: ILCA 6

South West: 29er and 420

We're looking for coaches with:

  • A passion and commitment for developing sailors full potential.
  • Comprehensive understanding of principles of long term athlete development.
  • Demonstrated success in their coaching, with a proven capability to identify challenges and deliver effective problem solving.
  • Comprehensive understanding of class equipment, racing formats, and rules.
  • Strong knowledge of speed, starting techniques, and decision-making strategies.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to inspire, engage, and motivate young athletes.
  • Experience of coaching at international regatta’s is desirable.

What you'll do:

  • Programme Planning: Create and deliver an evidence-based programme that all stakeholders (sailors, parents, operations, Head Coach/Manager) are aligned and committed to.
  • Culture of excellence: Establish a culture based on British Sailing values and agreed group standards of excellence
  • Camp Delivery: Plan and lead well-structured sailor centred training camps that focus on the most impactful long-term goals.
  • Coaching: Deliver high-quality coaching that encourage sailors to take ownership of their learning and provide feedback that supports progress.
  • Individual Development Plans: Work with sailors to create individual development plans that supports their technical, tactical, physical and psychological development.
  • Competition Planning: Work with sailors and team to create annual competition plans aimed at achieving process and performance goals
  • Continuous Development: Use time between camps and regattas for sailor reviews and remote learning, updating individual and squad development plans.
  • Communication & Leadership: Build positive relationships and communicate clearly with sailors, parents, and RYA staff about programme expectations and rationale.

The contract amounts to approximately 50 days from asap to 31 August 2027 with the possibility of renewal based on performance and programme needs.
