Olympic Academy 49er & 49er FX Lead Coach

We are currently looking for an Olympic Academy 49er & 49er FX Lead Coach. Each role amounts to circa 60 days of coaching. Starting on 01 September 2026 until 31 August 2027.

It’s an exciting time to join the Olympic Academy programme and work with sailors who have progressed from the Youth to Olympic classes. The following skills, experiences and factors are critical to this role:

  • Alignment and collaboration with British Sailing Team (BST) lead coaches to support the class strategy.

  • Creating a functioning squad and managing the dynamics of sailors training and competing with and against each other.

Success in this role will mean:

  • Helping sailors bridge the gap and successfully transition to senior sailing, ensuring the British Sailing Team (BST) has the right number and level of sailors for future cycles.
  • Supplying the required quality and quantity of sailors to the BST every 2-4 years to ensure we don’t have a talent gap in the BST.
  • Working down and up in the pathway so that sailors successfully transition into BSS and BST.
  • Supporting sailors with campaigning skills so that sailors can prioritise their resources and time effectively.
  • Supporting sailors to perform at key regattas and learn from the experience so that they continue to develop their sailing.
  • Instilling a squad culture and environment that enables the group to thrive, push each other and support the Class Strategy.
  • Fitting into and working with the whole team so that we collaborate on knowledge and expertise in an evolving class.
