People Advisor (Maternity Cover)

The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft. 


Job Role: People Advisor (Maternity Cover) 


Salary: £28,800 per annum (pro-rata)


Contract: Fixed-term maternity cover until December 2026


Hours: 30 hours per week


Location: Hamble


We are seeking an experienced and proactive People Advisor to join our team on a part-time basis to provide maternity cover. This role plays a key part in ensuring the effective delivery of HR services across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

As a People Advisor, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for HR-related queries, providing advice in line with employment legislation and internal policies.
  • Administering People-related correspondence, including contracts, offer letters and benefits information.
  • Creating, supporting and leading learning and development activities.
  • Managing employee relations casework, including performance, conduct and absence matters.
  • Supporting the end-to-end recruitment process, including advertising, interviewing and onboarding.
  • Maintaining and updating the online People system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date employee records.
  • Coordinating the employee survey and supporting follow-up action planning.
  • Supporting managers with appraisal processes and learning and development requests.
  • Assisting with People projects and initiatives, working closely with the Head of People and external HR consultants.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • CIPD qualified (Level 3 or above).
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a generalist HR role.
  • Proven generalist HR experience, ideally supporting multiple departments.
  • Strong working knowledge of current employment law and HR best practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and HR databases/systems.
