Pathway Lead Coach

RYA Scotland is seeking an exceptional Pathway Lead Coach to play a pivotal role in developing Scotland's most talented young sailors in local environments. This is an exciting opportunity to lead within a high-performance setting, helping athletes realise their potential while contributing to the continued growth and success of Scottish sailing.
As Pathway Lead Coach, you will be at the heart of our performance system, leading coaching delivery across Scottish Sailing Pathway Clubs and working closely with athletes, coaches, clubs, pathway classes, volunteers, and partners. You will help create positive, athlete-centred environments that support both performance and personal development.
Whether your motivation is developing future Olympians, creating outstanding environments for young athletes, or helping shape the future of Scottish sailing, this role offers a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy.
What You'll Do
- Lead and coordinate coaching programmes across Scottish Sailing Pathway Clubs.
- Develop talented sailors as they progress within the Performance Pathway.
- Manage and support a network of coaches, ensuring high standards of delivery and continuous development.
- Work closely with clubs, classes, parents, volunteers, and key stakeholders to strengthen the talent pathway.
- Contribute to athlete, programme planning, performance review, and long-term development strategies.
- Support RYA Scotland's ambition to inspire, develop, and retain sailors across the country.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines technical coaching excellence with strong leadership and relationship-building skills.
You'll bring:
- Significant sailing coaching experience within a performance or pathway environment.
- The ability to inspire and motivate young athletes and coaching teams.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to developing others.
- A passion for helping individuals achieve their potential both on and off the water.
Location
RYA Scotland has adopted a flexible approach to our working practices. This is a work from home contract - RYA Scotland has a logistics base just outside of Falkirk. However, the role is delivered throughout Scotland and regular travel and driving are essential.
Remuneration and benefits
Salary: £30,000-33,000
Benefits package includes 10% pension contribution and life insurance, free RYA Membership and associated preferential staff discounts.
Annual leave: 26 days pro-rata annual leave, plus public holidays.
