RYA Safeguarding policy and procedures

RYA is committed to safeguarding children and adults taking part in its activities from abuse and harm.

Introduction

The Safeguarding and Welfare Policy, together with its associated guidance and procedures, provides a clear framework for the RYA to promote a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. This policy is designed to protect the welfare of children and adults and to ensure that everyone involved with the RYA understands their role in recognising, responding to, and reporting safeguarding and welfare concerns. This policy supports consistent and appropriate action across all areas of the RYA’s work and is aligned with relevant legislative frameworks, statutory guidance, and good practice standards for safe sport.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding and Safe Sport

The RYA is committed to enabling opportunities for people to thrive on the water by ensuring our environments are safe and welcoming. This commitment extends to our workplace, events and activities, and the programs we run, and is part of our role in preserving the integrity and longevity of our sport. We will prioritise the welfare of all individuals, ensuring that safeguarding is woven into everything we do. People will always be a top priority.

We believe safeguarding and welfare are everyone’s responsibility; we all have a role to play. This belief underpins our commitment to safeguarding, recognising that the welfare and well-being of children and adults are integral to the success, integrity, and sustainability of our sport. Embedding robust safeguarding and welfare practices is a crucial component of the successful delivery of our strategy, 'Together on Water'.

We will utilise the skills and expertise of our Independent Safeguarding Advisor and Safeguarding Board Champion to provide strategic oversight, strengthen accountability, and ensure our safeguarding practices remain effective, informed, and aligned with current good practice.

There is a wealth of safeguarding information available on our RYA Website.
