Episode 5 - Tech onboard
Episode 5 is all about the technology that’s transforming the way we sail. Continuing her journey round Croatia, Dee has one big question on her mind – does technology enhance the sense of adventure or does it diminish sailors’ instincts?
Dee takes the opportunity to put some of her questions about tech to her skipper, Mirna. They discuss how having digital systems and wifi on board makes life easier. However, Mirna also points out that technology isn’t always reliable, so core skills and knowledge are still vital to any long trip. Mirna also talks about the classic resources that continue to be useful, such as paper charts which are particularly valuable when planning a multi-day journey.
At the Agana base, Dee takes a closer look at the tech that keeps Sunsail’s fleet running, from solar panels to electric winches. Sunsail expert, Mario, explains more about their SailSense system used to track charters and monitor reliability, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
