RYA Connect with Coaching - Online winter series 2023

Description

The online "Connect with Coaching" programmes are a way to engage, develop  skills and broaden knowledge with other likeminded coaches/Instructors. The sessions are free to attend and open to all RYA Instructors, Coaches, Club/ Centre volunteers and Affiliates.

This winter, Tim Cross, RYA Coach Development's "Connect with Coaching" host, Race Coach Tutor and Coach Developer will be joined by other industry experts to deliver insightful, forward thinking, and engaging topics on the following

14 November – Tides

With Mark Rushall & Tim Cross

Coaching sailors to make sense of tidal effects on a racecourse.

12 December - Beneath the Surface: Exploring Challenge and Pressure

With Fionnuala Barnes & Tim Cross

Fionnuala Barnes, performance psychologist with the British Sailing Team joins Tim Cross to discuss how coaches can support sailors in developing the characteristics to become mentally robust.

09 January – How the coach supports racing sailors to develop their decision-making?

With Dr Chelsea Orme & Tim Cross

Chelsea Orme, who completed a PhD on decision-making & debriefing with the British Sailing Team, will share and explore ideas on how we can support sailors in developing their strategic and tactical decision-making.

13 February – Science or Art, what guides your coaching? 

Hosts Alan Williams and Tim Cross lead a group discussion.

12 March – Creative activity design

With the RYA Race Coach Tutor Team,

RYA race coach tutors and BYS coaches share training activities and exercises they regularly use to support sailors in developing their racing skills.

Time

All sessions take place between 19:30 - 20:30.

The format

The format for each workshop will provide participants the opportunity to develop their knowledge and discuss topics that support their coaching/ Instructing.  Each workshop will use breakout rooms to facilitate small group discussions, encouraging participants to share past experiences and pose questions to the hosts.
