About the Course
The course will be run over three sessions that are 90 minutes each and aims to provide an introduction to umpired team racing suitable for experienced sailors who have no prior experience as umpires. The course will begin with an introduction outlining the need for umpires in team racing, and the qualities that an umpire should display. A brief reminder of the rules governing team racing will be given as well as an introduction to the procedures involved in umpiring. This will lead into the most important sessions, how umpires communicate between themselves in order to decide incidents promptly and correctly. We will also then discuss correct umpire positioning on the water in order to facilitate decision making.
