The National Umpire Course enables you to umpire better, enjoy umpiring more and be a lead umpire at a National event.

Venue:

RYA House, Ensign Way, Hamble, Hampshire, SO31 4YA

Date:

10 - 11 January 2026

Time:

0900 - 1700

Cost:

£85.00

Description:

Topics covered include Making Decisions; Umpire Communication; Positioning and Driving; Tactics and the Rules; Procedures; Role of the ChUmp; Self-Development.

The majority of the Course is generic across all forms of umpired racing (Team, Fleet, Match), however any rules discussions will follow RRS Appendix D (Team).
Whilst a National Umpire is expected to be able to learn and adapt to all formats where required, additional CPD focusing on the specific differences for Fleet and Match will be available later in the year.

During the Course there will be an opportunity to take the National Umpire Exam in either Team, Fleet or Match Racing variants.

Those applying to attend the Course should normally be appointed as a Regional Umpire or finalising their application. You should also be actively umpiring and have a good working knowledge of Part 2 of the Racing Rules.
