Wavelength Virtual Training Series 2026
In response to the evolving needs and feedback from our training network, in 2026 the RYA Training Conference is being offered as the Wavelength Virtual Training Series, supported by Gallagher.
The series will include six weekly in-depth online episodes and kicks off on Tuesday 10 February at 7pm UTC.
There’ll be a new episode available at the same time each Tuesday, with the series concluding on Tuesday 17 March.
This virtual format is designed to allow more of our training network to access content at a time that suits them – but if you tune in live each week, you’ll be able to interact with the RYA Training team to comment and ask questions throughout the session.
Episodes will include:
- Getting started with your RTC’s Safety Management System
- Discover the power of Instructor Support Statements
- Breaking Barriers: Talking about periods and getting afloat
- Digital route planning - AP of APEM (Appraise Plan Execute Monitor)
- #DigitalFirst - Manufacturer Insights
- RYA Training update by Director of Training & Qualifications Richard Falk
The recordings will remain available to view later, without the interactive element. Episodes will average around 30 minutes long.
Alongside these deep-dive sessions, you’ll also get access to an expanding playlist of bitesize video shorts centred around key topics for instructors and Principals.
Look out for emails each week giving the link to the episode and that growing bitesize playlist.
The in person RYA Training Conference will be back in 2027.

Episodes
1. Getting started with your RTC’s Safety Management System
Tuesday 10 February, 7pm UTC
This session opens the series with a panel discussion on how to evolve your operational procedures into a clear, compliant Safety Management System (SMS) - the recognised standard across the maritime sector.
Right now, it’s especially relevant for recognised training centres running commercial vessels, but it’s likely to become part of the wider conditions of recognition as we continue to keep all centres aligned with industry codes.
So, this is a great chance to get ahead of the curve and understand what’s coming.
Panel members:
- Craig Burton, RYA Training Resource Manager
- Niall McLeod, RYA Head of Competition and Technical Services
- Joff McGill, RYA Sailability Manager
- Susie Moore, RYA Regional Manager South
You will get the most out of this session if you read the following document before watching the video - What is a safety management system?
2. Discover the power of Instructor Support Statements
Tuesday 17 February, 7pm UTC
Join Liz McMaster, Rob Howlett, and Rachel Andrews for an insightful conversation on why these statements matter, who they’re designed for, and how they’re created. We’ll explore real examples and share inspiring stories of inclusive training courses that became possible thanks to this supportive approach. It’s a deep dive into the positive impact these statements have on both individuals and centres.
Pre-reading the following Training Notice and Guidance would give the discussion more context. Please note you will need to log in to view all Training Notice and Guidance and navigate to the relevant documents.
