Description:

Navigating and forecasting in a technology‑denied environment is the theme for Weather and Sailing 2027, the joint one-day seminar hosted by the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) and the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS).

Modern sailing and maritime navigation are increasingly reliant on digital systems for navigation, routeing and weather-related decision making. However, these systems can fail silently and unexpectedly. GNSS interference, algorithmic routeing blind spots and the loss of weather data can leave mariners vulnerable when critical information is unavailable.

This seminar will bring together experts in navigation and meteorology to examine the risks associated with digital disruption and explore how to operate safely and effectively when the digital layer is compromised.
