Creating a "+" email alias
On the new RYA website every account needs a unique email address. If you want to use the same email address for multiple accounts, you can use a "+" email alias. Here's our guide to what it is and how to use it.
What is a “+” Email Alias?
Most email providers allow you to add a “+tag” to your email address. For example:
All of these will still deliver to your original inbox (yourname@gmail.com or yourname@outlook.com), but you can use the tags to:
- Organise incoming mail
- Track where spam is coming from
- Create test accounts
Supported Email Providers
Gmail (Google Mail)
- Supports “+” aliases
- Example: grant.davey+design@gmail.com
- All emails go to grant.davey@gmail.com
- You can set up filters based on the +design part
Outlook / Hotmail / Live (Microsoft)
- Supports “+” aliases
- Example: grant.davey+newsletter@outlook.com
- All emails go to grant.davey@outlook.com
- Use Outlook rules to sort by alias
iCloud Mail (Apple)
- Does not support “+” aliases
- Instead, use Hide My Email or create aliases via iCloud settings
BT Internet / TalkTalk / Virgin Media

- These providers often use older or custom email systems without alias support
Tips for Using “+” Aliases
- Use different tags for different services: +amazon, +linkedin, +test
- Set up filters to automatically label or move tagged emails
