RYA statement on conflict in Ukraine

The RYA condemns the invasion of Ukraine and wishes to express its deepest sadness for all those affected by the ongoing conflict. We join the international call for an immediate end to all hostilities in Ukraine.

We endorse the positions stated by the IOC, the BOA and other sporting bodies and we welcome the statement issued today from World Sailing which suspends the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in World Sailing owned and sanctioned competitions and events until further notice.

By implementing these measures, World Sailing is supporting a united and coordinated approach within the global sports movement.

The RYA has no events or activities planned to be held in Russia or Belarus and the British Sailing Team will not be participating in any events in Russia or Belarus. We will not be acting as the organising authority for any events which may include Russian or Belarusian sailors until further notice.

We urge our cruising members who may be in the vicinity of the conflict to adhere to all Government advice and recommendations.

We will continue to assess the situation and will take any appropriate measures in line with the international community and the Olympic movement.
