Get close to the action at the 2026 iQFOiL World Championship
World class windsurfing is coming home – here’s how you can get involved
This September’s RYA-hosted iQFOiL World Championship represents a rare home crowd moment for Olympic class windsurfing in the UK — a sport where Britain has a proud pedigree and world-class athletes leading the way.
From 7-12 September, the world’s best iQFOiL riders will race for world titles in Weymouth & Portland — the first major iQFOiL Championship ever held in the UK, and the first World Championship in an Olympic windsurfing discipline on British waters since 2009.

And there will be plenty to cheer for. The British Sailing Team goes into the championship with serious talent: Emma Wilson and Andy Brown will be out to defend their 2025 gold medals on home waters, alongside a strong British squad plus a new generation of riders set to soak up all they can from a home Worlds opportunity.
Expect fast, physical, full-throttle racing at one of the sport’s most iconic venues, with Olympic medallists, World Champions and rising stars battling it out at speeds of up to 35 knots against the backdrop of Dorset’s iconic Jurassic Coast.
For RYA affiliates, their members and the wider watersports community there are chances to get up close, help deliver the event, bring new people into volunteering, fill the Fan Zone, and show the British Sailing Team what home support really looks like.
Here’s how you can get involved.
Join the crew
Major championships like this are powered by people — and volunteers will be at the heart of the iQFOiL Worlds, both on and off the water.
From supporting the racing and on-water operations to welcoming visitors, assisting teams and bringing the Fan Zone to life, there will be roles for experienced hands and first-timers alike.
You don’t need to be an iQFOiL expert. Sailors, windsurfers, race teams, mark layers, safety boat crews, boardsports fans and enthusiastic supporters can all play a part.
It’s a chance to be inside the event, meet new people, build skills and help deliver a world-class on home waters.

Help bring new volunteers into the sport
The championship is opening the door for our volunteers of the future. volunteers, race officials, instructors or environmental champions.
Through ELEVATE, the event’s official social impact programme, the RYA is using the momentum of the Worlds to support participation, mentoring, environmental education and new pathways into watersports.
As part of this, we’re running an ELEVATE:Volunteer Weekend on 4-5 July aimed at helping people – specifically women and young people – build the confidence, skills and connections to get involved.
The weekend includes a Race Management Taster Day, covering mark-laying, race officer skills and the essentials needed to support fun racing at a club, centre or training session.
There’s also the chance to train as a Marine CSI Instructor, helping bring crucial sustainability and environmental learning to life in a fun way for clubs, centres and young people.
Share the opportunity with members who could become future race volunteers, environmental champions or role models in your setting. This is a practical way to grow your club’s volunteer base and open the door to new people.
Fill the Fan Zone
On Saturday 12 September, the knockout Medal Series will provide a dramatic decider of the podium spots — and the action will come alive ashore with a free Fan Zone in front of Weymouth Pavilion, right in the heart of the town.
Expect big-screen racing, music, entertainment, sailing and windsurfing tasters, family-friendly activities and the chance to fill the British Sailing Team’s sails with support as they race for world titles on home waters.
iQFOiL is made to be watched: fast, fearless, tactical and spectacular. Riders fly above the water at speeds of up to 35 knots, with short, intense racing that is easy to follow and exciting to see up close.
Why not make it a club, class or family day out?
Save the date and sign up for updates on racing, athletes, schedules, and everything happening on and off the water — and be part of one of the summer’s most exciting watersports celebrations.
