Inspiration and impact

As the event’s Official Community Impact Partner, the RYA is working to create a lasting legacy around the event by helping more people in the Portsmouth area to get inspired and involved in sailing and the opportunities that the water can bring.

Through its engagement programme in partnership with the Andrew Simpson Foundation, Energise me and the 1851 Trust, the RYA will team up with local charities, community groups and schools to provide a range of opportunities to gain a unique introduction to sailing, the technology in the sport and the vital importance of ocean health.

From hands-on taster sessions and watersports opportunities to educational activities linked to STEM and sustainability, the RYA’s presence at Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix Portsmouth is all about making sailing accessible, inclusive and part of the wider celebration. The programme complements various opportunities provided by SailGP around the Portsmouth event for local youth, as part of their SailGP Better Sport ambition.

The RYA will also be on site in the Race Stadium throughout the weekend, so come and talk to us before racing kicks off about your next training course, our British Sailing Pathway programmes, taking the RYA Green Blue Pledge to support greener boating, and much more. And while you’re there, have a go on our windsurfing sim or VR headset to experience from land the thrill of foiling, dinghy sailing and windsurfing.
