The Grand Final explained

Throughout the season, all 12 teams have been accumulating points at each SailGP event, ranking in the overall championship leaderboard.

This weekend’s fleet racing will be split over two days and is all about scoring as many points as possible: ten points for a race win, nine for second, eight for third and so on. Teams finishing 11th and 12th score nothing.

At the conclusion of fleet racing the teams will be allocated event points which determine the overall ranking for the event - and the event winner.

The winner takes all

At this point the three teams on the Rolex SailGP Championship leaderboard advance to the Grand Final, where they will go head-to-head in a single winner-takes-all race.

The rules are simple, but the drama is high: the first across the finish line takes the title, the glory and the $2 million prize.

With 11 events done and only one remaining, mathematically only four teams can make it to the three-boat Grand Final race this season: Emirates GBR, the Black Foils, the BONDS Flying Roos and Los Gallos.
