Help shape the future of sailing

RYA seeks next generation of international sailing leaders

The RYA is inviting expressions of interest from individuals who would like to help shape the future of sailing through involvement in international governance.

This new initiative aims to identify and support people from across the sport who are interested in contributing to the work of international sailing organisations, including World Sailing and EUROSAF.

As part of the initiative, the RYA is looking to build a broader pool of individuals with the experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to contribute to the development of the sport at an international level. This includes areas such as racing rules, race management, events, equipment, offshore sailing, governance, youth development and participation.

There may be opportunities for some individuals to take part in development activities designed to increase understanding of international sailing governance and decision-making. Opportunities to contribute to committees may also arise, providing valuable experience and exposure to international working groups.

Participation in any development activity or appointment to an international committee cannot be guaranteed. However, the initiative is intended to help individuals develop their understanding of international sailing governance and be better prepared for future opportunities.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have strong experience or expertise within sailing
  • Bring knowledge relevant to one or more areas of the sport
  • Have an interest in governance and decision-making
  • Are motivated to contribute beyond their immediate sailing environment
  • Have the capacity to commit time to a voluntary role

"The future of our sport depends on people who are willing to share their experience, expertise and passion beyond their own sailing communities. We are looking forward to connecting with individuals who want to play a part in shaping sailing at an international level to help ensure the sport continues to evolve and thrive for future generations."

- RYA Director of Sport, Nick Scott

Individuals who would like to be considered for future development opportunities, or who wish to join a wider network of people interested in international sailing governance, are encouraged to apply through the expression of interest form.
