Powerboating enthusiast Rob Ingram has received an RYA Cymru Wales Impact Award for his commitment to activities on the water in Cardiff and beyond.
Rob supports both Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and The Sea Cadets with his powerboating expertise and knowledge of sailing, providing invaluable help with everything from engine maintenance and racing marks to training courses and safety cover.
Always on hand to provide practical support and solutions, Rob is also an RYA Powerboat Instructor, and a watersports instructor for the Sea Cadets.
Cardiff Bay Yacht Club’s Training Manager Pete Muskett nominated Rob for an Impact Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution, citing his “boundless enthusiasm, passion for powerboating, pride in Cardiff Bay YC and Cardiff Sea Cadets, and an eagerness, all combined with excellent skills and knowledge”.
Pete added: “Rob makes things happen at Cardiff Bay YC and the Sea Cadets. He not only takes his place on the safety boat rota as required but is first to fill any gaps. Rob is a skilled mark layer, giving his support at every event possible, from Tuesday night keelboat racing to open events and regattas both in Cardiff Bay and in the Bristol Channel. Rob also maintains all the club race marks ensuring they are ready for each event.
“Rob is an RYA Powerboat Instructor and regularly supports Cardiff Sea Cadets and the Sea Cadets national boat station in Weymouth. Rob is a regular at any RYA CPD (Continuing Professional Development) or training events, ensuring his skills are maintained and up to date with current best practice.”
The Impact Awards are run by boating’s governing body in Wales to recognise those who go above and beyond to support activities afloat, in line with its strategy - Together on our Waters – to create a connected, inspired and inclusive Welsh sailing community.
Rob said: “I just love being on the water. I like to follow best practice with powerboat driving, and when it comes to maintenance and also the race marks, I like to make sure everything is how it should be, so it all runs smoothly."
He added: “I would like to say thank you to Training Manager Pete Muskett and Chief Instructor Sam Thomas at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club for all their support."
Now hoping to further develop his qualifications by becoming an RYA Powerboat Trainer – helping other people to become RYA Powerboat Instructors - Rob is also keen to become a National Mark Layer, enabling him to provide further expertise at events.
RYA Cymru Wales Club Development Officer, Hester Walker, said: “Rob’s support to Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and the Sea Cadets is considerable and contributes substantially to numerous activities and our wider strategy, which aims to encourage people to get on the water, stay on the water and give back. Huge Congratulations to Rob on his well-deserved Impact Award - thank you for all that you do!”
