West Wiltshire Youth Sailing Association

West Wiltshire Youth Sailing Association (WWYSA) has been making waves with its sustainability initiatives and was unveiled earlier this year as the Green Blue Team winner at the 2025 RYA Affiliate Awards.

The accolade celebrates affiliates who champion sustainability and environmental innovation, and WWYSA’s commitment to green practices stood out from the crowd.

From swapping petrol outboards for electric motors to installing solar panels and promoting kit reuse through a “swap shop,” WWYSA has embedded eco-consciousness into every corner of its operations.

Efforts go beyond simply equipment: the club cultivates wildlife habitats, uses non-toxic cleaning products, and even repurposes boats and materials to extend their life and reduce waste.

The award was presented at the RYA Dinghy and Watersports Show, where WWYSA’s team – including instructors Margaret Pell and Nigel Silman, who also received Inspirational Race Coach/Instructor Awards – were celebrated for their dedication.

WWYSA’s story is a powerful reminder that even small clubs can make a big impact.
