RYA Scotland welcome new Board Members Chris Floyd and Judy Warburton
New Board appointments combine sporting passion and professional insight.
RYA Scotland is delighted to welcome two new faces to our Board of Directors, bringing a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to the Scottish boating community.
Joining us as our Coaching Director is Chris Floyd, taking over from Jack Mitchell – with Judy Warburton stepping into the role of Honorary Treasurer, taking over from Adam Dearnley.
A huge thanks go to Jack and Adam for all they’ve contributed across their respective terms.

Excited to join the team, Chris Floyd has spent the last four decades immersed in the waters of Mid Argyll, where his career has spanned outdoor education, commercial boat operations, and maritime safety. His current work sees him actively involved in the MCA boat codes, supporting commercial boat operators with training in boat handling and equipment use.
With over 30 years as a dinghy coach and advanced powerboat trainer, Chris has been key in countless qualifications and upskilling within the Scottish boating community. A long-time member of Craignish Boat Club, Chris has enjoyed time on the water in dinghies and cruising yachts as well as teaching in RIBs.
Bringing a deep understanding of the needs of small and rural clubs, Chris is passionate about listening to and learning from volunteers and communities across Scotland. Earlier this year, Chris made a valuable contribution to the sailing at this year’s Orkney Island Games as a volunteer.
Sharing his motivation for joining the Board, Chris said:
“I’ve spent a lot of time involved within the RYA, in various areas, and this is a chance to bring that experience to the discussions relating to the future within RYA Scotland. My whole career has been centred around coaching and instructing, this is a chance to be involved in how we take this sector forward.”
When not afloat - whether on Loch Nevis or the waters around Shetland - enjoys time with his family and dog, exploring the hills by bike or foot, camping, or simply paddling a canoe.

Judy Warburton also brings a rich blend of professional expertise and personal passion to her new role as Honorary Treasurer. Based in Doune, she’s a long-standing member of Loch Venachar Sailing Club, where she’s long enjoyed a wide range of watersports - from windsurfing and narrow boating to yachting.
Professionally, Judy has built a successful career in finance, with extensive experience in financial management, strategic planning, and governance. Her analytical skills and financial experience are key assets in supporting RYA Scotland’s operations and long-term sustainability.
More recently, Judy has turned her attention to research, focusing on decision-making processes in children’s legal hearings. This work reflects her broader commitment to fairness, inclusion, and the wellbeing of young people - values that align closely with RYA Scotland’s mission.
Explaining why she’s excited to take on the role, Judy said:
“I was looking for opportunities to volunteer and give back, and this opportunity seemed like a great fit, aligning my experience in the field as well as being a great way to support and stay connected to all that RYA Scotland are doing.”
Judy’s connection to RYA Scotland is also deeply personal. As a parent of children who progressed through the Performance Pathway programme, she brings valuable insight into the development of young sailors and the importance of nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels.
With her broad experience on the water, professional grounding in finance, and thoughtful approach to youth development and governance, Judy is a fantastic addition to the Board.
We’re thrilled to have Chris and Judy on board and look forward to the energy, expertise, and perspectives they’ll bring to RYA Scotland. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome!
