Staunton Harold Sailing Club turns to solar power for a brighter future
The sailing club has managed to cut energy costs and protect its future
Staunton Harold Sailing Club, Derby was awarded the RYA Award 2026 for the category of the Green Blue Team, for its incredible efforts towards sustainability.
The club has successfully achieved net zero through the power of community engagement, resourcefulness and determination.
Driven by a dedicated team of enthusiastic club members, an energy audit was carried out to identify opportunities for reducing energy consumption and costs. A series of small but effective improvements led to the installation of a new solar energy system which has proved highly efficient. The club now looks forward to exporting energy back to the grid.
Alongside this remarkable energy transformation, the clubs sustainability journey continues to grow from strength to strength. From inspiring its junior members to working closely with wildlife partners, the club is embracing new initiatives that bring people together to make a positive difference.
The club hopes these efforts will inspire others and make a lasting impact.
