Why days like this matter

RYA NI's Oran Young was at Carrickfergus Sailing Club on the day and captured perfectly what made the event so special.

Carrickfergus Sailing Club is a brilliant host today. The atmosphere here is fantastic. Today is so important because it gives these individuals a real competitive opportunity. They work hard throughout the year just to get volunteers out and get the boats on the water, but today is the first real chance they get to put that into practice in a competitive setting. We have done some race training in the past couple of weeks and we are looking forward to seeing that come to life today.

A growing community

The regatta is part of a growing calendar of Sailability activity in Northern Ireland. RYA NI continues to support the three Sailability clubs across the country. Disability membership across RYA NI affiliated clubs has grown over the past year, and events like this regatta are a big part of making that happen.

A huge thank you to everyone at Carrickfergus Sailing Club for hosting, and to all the volunteers, club staff and supporters who gave their time to make the day possible.
