The world’s best Olympic windsurfers will be in Dorset this coming week as Weymouth and Portland prepares to host the 2026 Musto iQFOiL World Championship.

From 7–12 September, up to 250 athletes representing 40 nations are set to compete for world titles on the waters that staged the sailing competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

It will be a landmark moment for British sailing. This is the first major iQFOiL championship to be staged in the UK and the first Olympic windsurfing world title to be decided on British waters since 2009. 

Back the Brits

Great Britain will enter the championship with two defending world champions.

Emma Wilson and Andy Brown produced a historic British double at the 2025 World Championship in Aarhus, Denmark, and will now attempt to retain their titles on home waters.

Wilson, a two-time Olympic bronze medallist, claimed her first senior world crown after a dramatic final series in Aarhus. Brown delivered an equally impressive performance in the men’s competition, controlling the decisive race to secure the biggest title of his career.

They will be joined by a strong British contingent that includes Olympic windsurfer Sam Sills, Finn Hawkins, Islay Watson and Abi Smith, giving the home crowd plenty to follow throughout the week. 

The racing

Opening Series racing will take place from Monday 7 to Friday 11 September, determining which athletes progress into the championship’s decisive Medal Series.

The new world champions will then be crowned on Saturday 12 September, when the action moves closer to spectators in Weymouth and the championship Fan Zone opens outside Weymouth Pavilion. 

Running from 10am until 6pm, the free Fan Zone will show live coverage from the racecourse on a big screen alongside athlete interviews, expert analysis, music, competitions, family activities and the championship medal ceremonies.

Visitors will also be able to discover more about the technology behind iQFOiL through equipment displays, demonstrations, virtual-reality experiences and a windsurfing simulator.

Results will be available from the first day of competition through to 12 September, all results and notices will be available via the results page.

The iQFOil YouTube will live stream qualification races from 10-11 September. On Saturday 12 September, UK viewers will be able to watch the medal series via Amazon Prime, Eurovision Sports, Free Live Sports, Plex and Samsung TV Plus.
