How to qualify
A total of 20 club teams will be selected for the Grand Final following regional qualification events taking place each year from July-to-July.
The top two clubs from each RYA area will qualify:
- England: North West, North East, Midlands, East, London & South East, South, South West
- Home Countries: Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales
Sailors only need to attend one qualifying event to earn points for their club but entering more events gives clubs the chance to climb higher in the rankings!
Qualifiers have been identified from existing events which are already a part of local and regional traveller circuits for children and young people.
These events have been chosen for their welcoming, fun and supportive introduction to inter-club racing, including for sailors and parents who may be venturing beyond their home club for the first time.
For many, these events provide a first experience of ‘winning’. The opportunity to also now qualify as a team for the RYA Junior Club Championships provides an added bonus to help young sailors develop their enjoyment of racing!
The grand final
Each qualifying club is invited to enter a team of six sailors, made up of:
- Two single-handed sailors (Toppers – 5.3 rig)
- Two double-handed crews (RS Fevas – XL rig)
- Teams must include at least two boys and two girls.
Competing clubs are asked to bring one Topper (5.3) and one RS Feva (XL). Sailors will compete individually and their results will be combined to determine an overall team score. The winners will be crowned RYA Junior Club Champions!
